The Vesuvius Wine Protection Consortium is an association of producers who want to promote, enhance and handle the interests connected with the protected designation of origin, a synergistic intersection between the territory and the network of companies in the sector.


The activities of the Vesuvius Wine Protection Consortium include the following:

  • Make proposals for regulatory discipline and carry out consultative and collaborative tasks in relation to the protected designation of origin;
  • Provide technical assistance and carry out proposal and study activities, and economic evaluation of the DOP or IGP, as well as any other activity aimed at enhancing the product from a technical point of view of the brand;
  • Collaborate, in accordance with the directives issued by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, for the protection and safeguard of the DOP or IGP from abuse, acts of unfair competition, counterfeiting, improper use of the protected designation of origin, and any behavior prohibited by law; also, collaborate with the Regions and Autonomous Provinces to carry out the activities under their responsibility;
  • Perform, towards its members, the functions of protection, promotion, enhancement, consumer information and general care of the interests of the relative denomination, as well as activities of supervision to be carried out mainly at the stage of trade, in collaboration with the Central Inspectorate of Quality Protection and Fraud Repression of agricultural products and in conjunction with the Regions and Autonomous Provinces.

With the recognition of erga omnes in 2015, in the interest of all the producers in the supply chain, the Vesuvius Wine Protection Consortium can:

  • Define, after consulting the representatives of the category of the denomination in question, the implementation of the government policies of the offer, in order to safeguard and protect the quality of the DOP and IGP product, and to contribute to a better coordination when placing of the protected designation of origin on the market, as well as defining plans to improve the quality of the product;
  • Plan and coordinate the activities of the categories involved in the production and marketing of the DOP and IGP;
  • Act, in all judicial and administrative offices, for the protection and safeguard of the DOP or IGP and for the protection of the interests and rights of the producers;
  • Perform activities of supervision, protection and safeguard of the denomination, which need to be carried out at the stage of trade.
