In the heart of one of the world’s most captivating archaeological sites, the Parco Archeologico di Pompei, the third edition of “Pompeii, Dell’Antichità della Vitae del Vino e del Cibo” was held on September 7 and 8, 2025 an event that brought together culture, history, archaeology, and international wine excellence.
The Consorzio Tutela Vini Vesuvio proudly took part in the event, presenting for tasting some of its most representative labels—including the renowned Vesuvio Lacryma Christi in a setting that highlighted the deep historical roots and the extraordinary uniqueness of our volcanic territory.
Held along Viale delle Ginestre and in the Quadriportico dei Teatri, the event brought together around 40 wineries from ancient, vine-growing regions: from Georgia to Armenia, from Turkey to Moldova, as well as prestigious Italian regions such as Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tuscany, Lombardy, and naturally Campania.
The goal? To restore wine to its sense of sacredness, fostering a dialogue between past and present, between ritual tradition and scientific research. The thematic masterclasses, panels with international experts, and tastings open to visitors of the archaeological site created a mosaic of knowledge that celebrated the vine as a symbol of identity and cultural continuity.
Among the most notable contributions were those of Tamuna Liluashvili, Ambassador of Georgia in Rome; Helmuth Koecher of the Merano WineFestival; wine critic Armando Castagno; and archaeologist Llorenç Alapont. These were complemented by reflections on amphora-aged wines, the revival of Turkish Muscat, and an in-depth exploration of “old vines” led by Michèle Shah, Italy Ambassador of The Old Vine Conference.
Within this rich landscape of narratives, stories, and tastings, the presence of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Vesuvio powerfully embodied the historical and qualitative value of viticulture at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, rooted in the fertile volcanic soils and capable, sip after sip, of expressing both an ancient memory and a contemporary identity.
The Director of the Park, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, emphasized how initiatives such as this further strengthen Pompeii’s role as a vibrant place, open to cultural, scientific, and food-and-wine dialogue. An approach that our Consorzio fully embraces: promoting Vesuvian wine also means enhancing the history that surrounds it.
We extend our thanks to all the visitors, producers, and organizers who made this extraordinary encounter between archaeology, culture, and wine possible.
